PCIGR Co-Director and Professor Julie Prytulak has been named as a Canada Research Chair Tier 1 in Isotope Geochemistry. She is among 14 new CRCs appointments announced by the Government of Canada this week, and one of 43 CRCs across the country to receive funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation’s John R. Evans Leaders Fund (CFI-JELF).

As an inorganic geochemist who is focused on developing and applying traditional and novel analytical methods, Dr. Prytulak brings specific expertise in isotope geochemistry. Her research interests include magma generation and evolution on Earth and other planets, element transfer in subduction zones, metal transport in the surface and near surface environment, combining experimental mineralogy with stable isotope techniques, and developing emerging stable isotope techniques for both fundamental and societally relevant challenges.

Dr. Prytulak arrived at UBC and PCIGR as a full professor in 2024. She brings with her over 20 years of experience in isotope geochemistry, lab management, and mentoring. She is actively building her lab and research program at PCIGR, using innovative methods and techniques, at the same time making isotope geochemistry fun and entertaining for her students. She has been an invaluable addition to the PCIGR team and will be sure to make many geological discoveries in years to come.

Congratulations, Dr. Prytulak!
